Porcelain Crowns in Atlanta, GA

Restoring your teeth from the damage of cavities with dental crowns doesn’t have to leave you with mismatched teeth anymore! Dr. David Fields proudly offers porcelain crowns to patients of Smyrna, Vinings and other surrounding Atlanta, GA communities in his conveniently located Atlanta-based Smile Envy Dental Group office.

What are Porcelain Crowns?

Crowns are prosthetic caps or full prosthetic teeth used to replace on or more missing teeth. Porcelain is the glass-like material that is used to make the cap or tooth. Porcelain is preferred because it has the same white hue as natural teeth and provides the same strength and function.

When Are Porcelain Crowns Used?

Porcelain crowns have many benefits for a variety of situations including:

  • Protecting a weak tooth from chipping or breaking
  • Repairing a severely cracked tooth
  • Restoring a worn tooth
  • Cover a misshapen or discolored tooth
  • Strengthen teeth involved in a root canal treatment
  • Finalized a dental implant

How Porcelain Crowns Work

After Dr. Fields determines that a porcelain crown is your best treatment option, you will be scheduled for two subsequent visits at our office. The first visit is a preparation visit. Dr. Fields will take x-rays of your mouth to ensure the area is healthy and ready for a porcelain crown. If no additional treatments are needed, Dr. Fields will numb the treatment area to ensure your comfort. The procedure consists of Dr. Fields measuring the area and creating a mold for the porcelain crown. Once this is done, Dr. Fields inserts a temporary crown into your mouth. The temporary crown remains until your second visit.

When the porcelain crown is ready, you will visit Dr. Fields for your second visit. He will once again numb the area prior to starting treatment. Once it is numb, he exchanges the temporary crown for the porcelain crown.

Recovering From Porcelain Crowns

After your first visit, your mouth may be sore for the remainder of the day. Over-the-counter medicines help most patients manage the discomfort. Dr. Fields may also recommend eating soft foods.

How Do I Care For Porcelain Crowns?

Once the porcelain crown is inserted, you should avoid sticky, chewy foods that could dislodge the crown. To ensure longevity of the crown, we recommend avoiding hard food such as peanut brittle or other hard candies as it could crack or chip the porcelain.

How Much Do Porcelain Crowns Cost?

The cost of porcelain crowns varies from patient-to-patient as the circumstances for needing porcelain crowns are a consideration. Most dental insurance plans cover most, if not all, of the cost of porcelain crowns. A friendly member of our staff can help you determine your coverage.

Our office accepts cash, credit card and personal check as payment options. We also provide financing through CareCredit®, an easy way to finance any out-of-pocket expenses.
